i'm screening resumes for a company which will remain un-named. of the 20 or so resumes, my observation - only the uwaterloo students are employable. ryerson students (8 applicants), et al... do you even have a career centre? if you do, i recommend getting consultation on your resumes. i get to read some pretty bad grammar and paragraphs of rhetoric. rhetoric especially annoys me. your goal when writing should be to say something. don't think i'm mean. i think i'm very patient when it comes to reviewing resumes - i spend at least 3 min on each one, probably 3 times the industry standard. i am also trying to overlook some grammar and suspect writing, to avoid systematically filtering out talented people who do not speak english as a first language.
anyways here are some short, amusing, randomly selected quotes:
"analytical yet creative thinking" - because they are mutually exclusive...
"objective - a position to comprehend and enhance my skills" - you want us to help you comprehend your skills?
"highlights - proficient in organization and administration" - any good at bureaucracy too?
