so i decided to start writing down lessons in management consulting. even though i think i forgot a lot of them already
1. numbers are really just estimates from the internet or the back of your head
2. it matters how pretty your powerpoint slides are because essentially consultants sell paper
3. nobody really understands what your job is

vincent lam - bloodletting and miraculous cures = 6/10. i'm not entirely sure if i like this book or not. some of the short stories have good suspense and are interesting. he also brings his experiences from med school into the story. on the other hand, he tries to link the stories and i think its ineffective. he can't really develop character this way. finally he sensationalizes stories that aren't that interesting.

i learned today that you can send letters to members of parliament without a postage stamp. simply write their name, their title (member of parliament) and address ("house of commons").

two restaurants i've been meaning to go to for a long time
canoe - 7/10. the winterlicious menu was pretty typical, but the food quality and preparation were good. the lamb dish i had didn't taste gamey, so that was a huge plus. also the view from the 60 + floor of the td building was amazing. service was also pretty good.
nectar - 9/10. i thought this 6 course meal was amazing. the portions were large. we had a duck dish, ribs and my personal favourite was a dish with large but tender chucks of tempura lobster. nice ambiance too, but our seats were probably not the best in the house. this wasn't a winterlicious menu, so i'm wondering how good it would be during winterlicious.

i think i'm going to have to stop helping out around the house. by doing housework i seem to be taking over the work of my dad, who seems to be bored. last night he seemed disappointed that i took out the garbage because he was getting ready to do it. today i picked up the mail and he tried to sort it while it was still in my hands.

every smart computer person or mba at american schools applies to work at google. there was even an article in fortune titled "is google too smart for its own good?" too bad i got an email from google today saying that my resume says i'm smart, but not smart enough to work for google. anyways i think i'm going to apply for a job at yahoo. i don't think anyone actually does that. got to be less competition.
old chinese proverb; "the temptation to quit will be greatest just before you suceed".
does that work for smoking?
