this is good. a mother turned in her 17 year old son who somehow managed to acquire an ak47. i'm tired to hearing mothers of arrested kids say "he was a good boy", or "he would never use a gun". i'm also tired of the race card - "they would have never arrested my ak47 toting kid if he was white". yeah whatever.
the black community is making accusations of racism because the governments were quick to act on trying to stop gun violence when a photogenic innocent looking 15 year old white girl was randomly shot on yonge st midday. on the other hand, they argue that if a black person was shot, governments would probably not have the same response. i and a lot of other people could probably agree with this observation. however i think its less racism and more of a sympathy bias. the public and i have trouble coming up with sympathy when the pictures of thugish looking shooting victims are put on the front page of the newspaper. nobody goes to the location of botched drug deals to lay wreaths for shooting victims.
a 10 year old black girl was shot randomly on a crowded ttc bus early last year and the public was outraged. this eventually became indifference when it was publicized that no witness were coming forward and that members of the black community were shielding the shooters.
