marketing class is bull $h!t. for 40% of the course mark, students are forced to sign a confidentiality agreement to do consulting for either a for profit television network, a courier company or a food company. this is all good, except nobody gets paid! free consulting for non profits or ngos is okay, but why should i think of ways and do research so a multi billion dollar media conglamorate can increase their viewership and revenues. now some of you might argue that we are students and that nobody would pay us for our work anyways. this might be true for undergraduate projects, however students at rotman have at least 4 years of university education and normally get paid to think. some of my colleagues used to be marketers and strategy consultants. the prof a.w. has basically sold my paid education to a corporation. she diminishes the idea of what an independent thinking university should be.
