"Death is very likely the single best invention of life. It's life's change agent, it clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now, the new is you. But someday, not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. " - steve jobs to stanford class of 2005.
as for having limited time and not wasting it - i recall someone saying that retirement should be from 20-40, where you can party and travel while you still have your youth. then from 40-death, you can work your 60 hour weeks. this makes more sense than the current model, where if you're lucky you achieve freedom 55, but you're too old to do anything exciting.
i'm jealous that stanford students (i can only count 2 that i know) get real speakers for graduation.
i was reading about how steve jobs (an orphan at birth) dropped out of college and had to go around collecting pop cans refunds to be able to eat. while dropping out of college on average is not the best thing, it seems to me that if you are going to make it big you need to either drop out of college (jobs, gates, dell, cheney, page and brin), or experinece almost losing everything (lance armstrong).
another i noticed, is that all presidents, prime minsters or other important figures, have pictures of themselves as teenagers shaking hands with important figures. (i.e clinton shaking jfk's hand) i don't think i've even have a picture shaking hands with the eng sci chair, or my high school principal.
