i found a 1967 centennial edition canadian penny in my house today. it has a dove on it instead of the usual maple leaf. i thought wow i just discovered a rare coin. i googled it, and apparently if its in mint never used condition i might be able to get $5-$10 for it. my very used one might be worth $0.05 according to a coin collectors forum. so in about 38 years, this special edition penny went up 5x in value. so lets see. those special red rememberance day quarters you get a tim hortons - worth $1.25 in the year 2043.
if you thinking of collecting these quarters (for profit or because they look cool) consider this - ask any person over 50 and they'll say that $0.01 could buy you a happy meal, subway ride and movie ticket in 1967. the $0.05 the penny is worth today buys absolutely nothing. my advice - take the quarter - put it in a gumball machine, enjoy the gum ball. money is for spending.
