i think they should replace chinese script with pin yin. this would eliminate the need to memorize 1000s of characters to be literate in chinese. in tokyo they write words in japanese script, followed by the "japanese pin yin". for instance on the subway the station name is "$%^&" (some japanese word) followed by "pin yin" - nihombashi. so in chinese instead of memorizing characters, one could write - wo3 shi4 eric.
anyways i can't believe that i now pay to go to chinese school - something that i hated and tried to avoid during my childhood.

Adding Ping Ying behind Chinese characters is a disgrace! :) It's like saying we *need* English. Ping Ying is just but a learning tool. That's all it is; it's not our language.
Also just because the Japanese people can't learn properly and need ping ying appended to their own language doesn't mean we should do the same. :D

i agree with esquif...chinese done properly is so much better than japanese. doesn't matter how well you learn japanese it's still nothing more than a bucket of chop suey. and furigana (japanese pin yin for chinese characters) is just an excuse of their inability to comprehend our sophisticated chinese character system.
