i noticed at work that everyone puts up pictures of their kids or travels on their desk, but never any pictures of their spouse. this makes a lot of sense. the kid pictures make for good small talk - "hey you have beautiful children, how old are they?". its easy to make random comments and its easy to see "cuteness" in children. on the other hand conversing about the spouse photos doesn't quite work - "hey your wife is pretty cute". - what are the odds?
at my old work i used to have a picture of j at my desk, and i think i've actually got a comment similar to that before. i've also got "do you love her?" (ACTL-Q people can guess who asked) and "are you going to marry her?". anyways right now i have no photos at my desk which means i don't have to answer interesting questions, plus i've improven my ability to discuss the finer points of the weather.

"Ur gurl is kyoot... u gonna marry her?" Now is that a comment spoken onlee for the fact that your a younger person there or is it based on the fact just that you haf the picture up? Now speaking of the weather... the finer points upon that on top of that I've not quite mastered yet, perhaps more on the fact that I haven't gotten fully into the workforce... u'll haf to teach me that some time... however, I haf found that talking occaisionally about major events, either saying its gud or bad, thats on the front page of the newspaper is also a very good way to ice break things... and for you... I believe that a very good way to make others not want to talk to you is comment on their daughters... i figure most are maybe slightly younger than you or around ur age, therefore, perhaps asking if they're single will further reduce ur small talk with them... jus a suggestion... - Steve
